Watching an Australian television rural affairs programme, “Landline”, I was startled to see Harumafuji and Kisenosato appear on the dohyo throwing salt.
Turns out that the salt used in Ozumo comes from Shark Bay in Western Australia.  The salt is 99.7% pure, so most suitable for purifying the dohyo.  
The salt mine is owned and operated by Mitsui Corporation
