Speaking of warm treats, my personal favorite Japanese sweet is taiyaki

Something about that last bite of the tail with a little crunch and the
subtle sweetness of the azuki just gets me. Interestingly enough, the fish
shape wasn’t always the standard. The original inventor tried out several
unique shapes, including turtles and airships, until the sea bream fish
shape finally stuck. I wish I could still find a turtle taiyaki somewhere…
